Meet Shannon Scott, Dedicated Educator and Mentor

Welcome to Shannon's Discovery School!

I'm Shannon Scott, and I bring over 30 years of teaching experience to my role as an educator and advocate for personalized learning. My microschool is built on the belief that every student deserves a learning environment that fosters their growth and helps them achieve their highest potential. Currently, I teach a homeschool pod for students from 2nd to 8th grade.

I hold a Master's Degree in Language and Literature, with certifications in Executive Functioning and Socio-Emotional Learning. My approach to education has always been to provide individualized instruction that meets the distinct needs of each student. This philosophy stems from my deep-seated belief in the transformative power of tailored education.

At the heart of my teaching philosophy is the commitment to foster a love for learning, enhance student confidence, and cultivate a growth mindset. My classrooms are safe, inclusive spaces where students are encouraged to take risks, face challenges, and fully engage with their learning journey.

Throughout my career, I have focused on areas such as foreign languages, executive functioning, reading, writing, history, STEM, and test-taking skills. I am dedicated to delivering instruction that is not only engaging but also enriches the educational experience by sparking curiosity and encouraging a passion for learning.

Understanding that each student learns differently, I emphasize a personalized teaching approach. By recognizing and nurturing individual strengths, interests, and learning styles, I adapt my teaching methods to optimize each student’s learning experience and success.

Beyond the classroom, my passions include yoga, reading, animals, painting, baking, hiking, and community involvement. Whether leading teens in guided visualization, volunteering locally, or helping direct the church play, I am committed to enriching lives both educationally and through broader community engagement.

At Shannon's Discovery School, we are committed to empowering our students to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. We are fostering a vibrant community where each student is encouraged to shine and realize their potential.

Meet Christina King

Co-Teacher & Learning Support Specialist

Christina King brings warmth, patience, creativity, and a wonderfully down-to-earth presence to Shannon’s Discovery School. As one of our primary educators, Christina works closely with students throughout the school day, providing both small-group instruction and individualized support while helping students build the confidence and independence they need to become successful learners.

Christina has a particular gift for connecting with students who learn, think, move, or approach school a little differently. She understands that attention, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and academic performance are often deeply connected—and that sometimes a student who appears distracted or resistant simply needs a different way into the learning.

Students appreciate Ms. Christina’s sense of humor, encouragement, and ability to meet them where they are while still holding clear expectations. She helps create the comfortable, accepting atmosphere that makes SDS feel less like a traditional classroom and more like a community where students are genuinely known.

Working alongside Shannon Scott, Christina helps provide the structure, flexibility, movement, encouragement, and personal attention that are at the heart of the Shannon’s Discovery School approach.

Most importantly, Christina genuinely enjoys our students—and they know it. 💛

We're not here to follow trends—we're here to build something timeless. With a blend of creativity, strategy, and heart, we help children’s learning come to life. Every project we take on is an opportunity to learn, grow, and do something meaningful.
